Day 1 - Thursday July 26

We have asked students to write down in their own words memories from day 1.  It took a while to post since we do not have any wifi except at the McDonalds (that i am now sitting at @ 10:45pm and listening to conversations in english, russian, and spanish!)  Students are great!  Tomorrow we journey to Metlakatla.  Will post memories of day 2 (which is today0 hopefully soon! - Christy

About 14 hours in, and there is already crazy rain! But also crazy memories in the making! Everything here smells like fish! Bleh :P It is a really cute little fishing town though. We had a 20 hour day yesterday, and all our bio clocks are off. The sun here doesn’t even set until around 10, and it gets bright again at 4. Looking forward to a great next few days! Here’s to being Adventurously Expectant! ~Karli K.

We were all pretty much either asleep or running on adrenaline at the end of the first flight… Then our pilot decided to nearly crash land us. But we are all alive and it was worth it! Everything is incredibly beautiful here and we’ve seen a bald eagle across the street from our church! We’ve already made amazing memories (slug juice!) and are excited to make more! ~Raelynn M. & Jill K.

I kinda burped really loud at an eight year old’s birthday party… J ~ Veronica

I see stone escalators and bald eagles and boats and it smells fishy here…. J~ Meaghan Ford

Makenzie is having SO much fun!!Everything is so beautiful and I didn’t really sleep because of Brooke’s snoring…. Alaska is AMAZING!!! It smells like fish and ocean and it’s a cute little fishing town. The sun sets at 10 and rises again at about 4… How crazy is that??? I can’t wait to start this amazing experience of a lifetime… ~Makenzie F.

Alaska is, as expected, a wet, verdant wilderness. Running this morning, with a fine mist in the air, was beautiful as we passed deep forests and climbed up the rugged hill, looking over the harbor. ~Reid

  1. We are praying for you you begin your week. Did you get to visit Sheldon Jackson College?

We have visited Alaska twice and enjoyed the travel and the people. We were able to see Mt. Denali a couple of times.
